The Auction House

You have collected so much junk that you are not sure what to do. I know you want to free up some of those backpacks, bank slots and your mail from all of these items. What are you going to do? It is time to log in your mule whom should be parked in one of the major cities and get into the Auction House. You are going to be busy for a while now, grab a pen, some paper and get a calculator handy. Very important items for the next journey on your quest to make the gold you want.

I find it best to start on one type of item, for instance I will work herbs or linens first. I will then begin to work skins, other trade skill items and then finally I will auction any equipment I find. This is all a matter of personal preference. It helps me stay organized and I can see everything listed in a kind of order while I am working everything.

I will be using some American money standards for this next part, international players I apologize but I think in the end you will have had similar experiences and will be able to fully use the system I am describing.

Search for the item on the Auction House and see what prices it is going for. Note the highest prices and then even the lowest and quickly determine what everyone seems to be selling at. Sure there is one guy selling for 1 gold, another guy selling for 75 silver, but what you want to pay attention to is that entire gang of people selling for 45 silver. 45 Silver, what a great price, so you are going to list yours as 44 silver and 99 copper. You are going to play off of the other players emotional states, they are looking for the smaller number and you are taking advantage of this. Sure you can set your price at 45 silver, but then you are a number amongst a crowd.

How do I know this works? Do you ever shop for anything? Have you ever seen a commercial? One week only, our fabtabulous Super-Spectacular sale... you can get your very own for only 99.99... yes that is right...only 99.99. You remember those commercials now don't you? Yeah I thought so, as consumers we fall into this .99 trap all of the time. Sure it is actually 100, but in our minds we are not thinking about how close to 100 we are...we are thinking and even said to our parents or spouses "It is only 90 something". You can rationalize it and in the end you will own it.

Setting everything for x amount and 99 will draw your customer in. I know this works, we deal with it in daily life and I used this technique at level 35 to make 300 gold in a matter of 2 weeks.

I recently started a new character on a new server and I am selling level 5 and 6 equipment like mad. Making 20 gold before I even hit level 15, but I was not focused on leveling. I am focused on making money and setting myself up for later, end game purchases I want.

When the items you have auctioned have delisted, which is always 24 hours for myself, then you need to decide if it is worth re listing. If the items is going to possibly bring in 30 silver and yet it costs 16 silver to list, you might want to sell to vendor at this point. If you re list it, you may want to consider increasing the price to make up some of your lost cash.

You can also throw the item(s) into the bank, perhaps later the value of the item will increase.
