The Basics

Let's get yourself prepared to make money, just jumping into this with no plan or preparation will cause you to get frustrated or it may greatly lengthen the time it takes for you to get the cash flowing in. So let's begin shall we?

The first thing you need to do right now is stop selling to vendors. At least until you are done reading this guide and you have a better grasp at what it is you need to do. You may inadvertently sell something worth 1 gold to a vendor for 7 silver and I have seen this happen one to many times. You could have made 5 gold and instead opted to sell to a vendor for 35 silver total.

So saying this, lets talk about item description colors. When you look at the name of an item in game, it will be one over several colors:

wow item
Gray - These items are junk items or as other players call it "vendor trash". These items are not needed by anyone or anything in game. They are the specifically in game to sell to a vendor and make some cash off of. I now give you permission to sell gray colored items to vendors.

WowItem
• White - These items are used by other players in some ways. Mostly trade skill items and sometimes quest items, these items you want to collect to later sell in the auction house. If you are finding lots of these kinds of items, then focus on collecting them in stacks of 10 or 20. Later on the players looking for these items will appreciate being able to buy them in stacks.

WoW shot
• Green - These items are rare magic items of some kind. Mostly equipment or armor, these items have the potential of bringing in good money. Other players will buy these items to make their own character(s) stronger.

WoW gold blue item
• Blue - These items are very rare and with a few exceptions, will make you a good deal of money. Some blue items in the auction house I have seen go for up to 100 gold. It depends on the item and how rare it is. To find one of these good items is a fantastic find that will help you immensely if you intend to sell it.

wowpurple item
• Purple  - These items are epics. They are the items you will strive to have, they are the best items in game with the exception of orange items. If you have a purple item to sell get ready to watch your money situation single handedly end.

wow gold orange
• Orange - Legendary items, there are no better in game and beyond super rare. Remember me saying that your money situation will be handled well with the sale of a purple item? Multiply that by 20 now. I have seen only a few players with orange items and I am almost 100% certain you will not find one you can sell to another player.

Those colors will be your guide to what you can possibly sell and what is junk. You will have to really pay attention to the types of green items you find as some of them will indeed be junk even in the eyes of other players, but that will have to be judged by you.
